Village Fest 2008
The Kannapolis Chamber of Commerce, promoting
the community spirit and pride of Kannapolis, organized Cottonstock Balloon Rally and Arts & Craft Festival 25 years ago. It began as a weeklong event including baseball games; choir singing, with the festival
part being in the downtown streets. For many years the festival was named Spring
Fever Fest. Before the close of 2006, the festival was renamed for the heritage
of Kannapolis and is held in Cannon Village. A few years ago we added the
Hot Air Balloon Rally as well as Gospel music on Friday night. At least 10 balloons
launch from the streets of Cannon Village at sunrise. The rally is free to the
public and a great start to a daylong craft festival. Local dance studios showcasing
their students begin at 10:00 AM with entertainment throughout the day. Craft
and food vendors line the streets of the downtown area bringing people from all over the Cabarrus and Rowan County regions. As the day comes to an end a free concert begins at 7:00 PM with a Hot Air Balloon Glow at dusk. The day comes to an end at
11:00 PM.
In 2006 the Cottonstock Festival was
renamed Villge Fest.
